Phone calls and postal services

Minimum rates of a local call from a public phone are BRL 0.12 per minute. You can also pay with a pre-paid card. In case of intercity calls, pre-paid phone cards are generally the cheapest option. To make a collect call to anywhere in the world, dial 0800-703-21-11 (Semi-Automatic Collect Call). To make a collect call to a local number, just add 9090 in front of the number. If you are calling a number from another Brazilian state, add 90-XX-STD before the number. In this case, XX is the operator code and STD is the area code.

If you would like to call Brazil from overseas or make international calls, dial 00 for international access (land lines only), the country code, the STD of the city and the phone number. For example, if you want to call the main Office of the Department of Tourism of Paraná in Curitiba you should dial +55-41-3313-3500 or 0055-41-3313-3500.

The use of mobile phones from other countries depends on the technology and type of contract you have with the carrier.

Visitors that wish to spend several weeks in Paraná without a fixed address can use the general delivery service (called, Poste Restante) offered by Correios do Brasil, the Brazilian Postal Service. You can collect your mail at the main post office of the city indicated on the delivery address.
